About us
Hi, I’m María, your
Guide to the Living Sea
I’m originally from a small town in Spain—far from the ocean, but always drawn to it. After graduating with a degree in biology, I set out to explore the world, traveling through many countries and living in several of them along the way.
I spent several years in Australia working as a dive instructor and guide, deepening my connection with the ocean and marine life.
In addition to being a biologist, I’m a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, an AIDA freediver, a conservation and science communicator, and an amateur photographer.
I love being outdoors—whether I’m hiking, out on the water, swimming, or road-tripping. My favorite moments are always those spent in nature. I believe that through time spent in the natural world, we can reconnect both with the planet and with ourselves—and that this reconnection is key to solving many of the challenges we face today.
After years of living and working abroad, I’ve now made my home in La Ventana, a small town in Baja California Sur. Here, I founded Salinas Adventures, an ecotourism company born from my passion for nature, education, and meaningful experiences in the wild.
Being a nature guide and scuba diving guide, I spend my time doing what I like the most: showing people what I love and why it’s important to protect it. Whether on land, hiking among the cactus, and discovering the desert´s beauty, or exploring the biodiversity of the sea around us, with the sound of rays jumping out of the water and whales breaching in winter.
I personally curated all the experiences we offer to share my passion with others and reconnect people with nature.
Science Communication
By sharing stories about nature, wildlife, and ecology, I aim to contribute to conservation efforts. I write articles for various media outlets, focusing on the ocean, the animals that call it home, and the importance of protecting our natural world.
In addition to writing, I’ve also spoken publicly at different venues. You can watch a recording of my talk at the National Museum of Science in Madrid.
If you're curious about the wildlife of Baja California Sur, check out the Blog, where I post articles about local species and ecosystems. Some of my works can also be found at The Sea Around Us.
I also use photography to show nature´s beauty. I participated in the prestigious Off Festival of PhotoEspaña in Madrid, where I exhibited my photo collection Reconexión Natural. You can read more about my participation in the festival in this news article by EFE Verde.

Would you like to connect?
Whether you’d like to book a tour, organize a talk for your workplace or organization, order a print of one of my photos, or need help with writing or content creation, I’d love to hear from you.
